Danielle Spitty confirmed as the new Head Coach of UTS Balmain Women's Australian Water Polo League Team

UTS Balmain Tigers Water Polo Club (UTS BPWC) wish to announce the appointment of Danielle Spitty née Bower as Coach for 2018/19 Women's Team for Australian WaterPolo League (AWL)

A member of the Tigers for 18 years, Danielle has an extensive history both playing and coaching. Danielle has represented at both National Senior and Junior levels and brings a wealth of knowledge to the role. The Bower family has had a strong presence within the club across multiple generations, her father Phil is a Life Member and the former Head Coach of the Women's AWL team, Danielle's sister Ashley and brother-in-law Ian Calpin are both long time members of the Women's and Men's AWL teams, and most importantly her Mum, Virginia, is often seen on the officials table with pen in hand.

Danielle will be ably assisted by a Coaching Staff that includes former Olympians Taryn Woods and Nathan Thomas.

Danielle spoke about taking on the Senior Coaching role at Balmain, “I am very confident that the coming year will be a great one for the Tigers, not only do we have a number of players returning to bolster our ranks but we have so many Junior players, who under the tutelage of Nathan have shown remarkable ability over the last two years. I see my role as nurturing these young girls over the season so they can grow both their knowledge and love of the game. I am also looking at bolstering our Senior playing ranks and expect to make some announcements on that very soon.”

Danielle takes control of a squad bursting with talent. The Balmain squad includes a number of current Australian representatives; Nioka Thomas, who made her AWL debut last year with the Tigers, who has recently been selected in the Born 2000 Women’s team to represent Australia at the FINA Youth World Championships beginning on 27 August in Belgrade, Serbia and Aussie Stingers Genevieve Longman and Pascalle 'Scully' Casey who have recently toured with the Aussie Stingers.

Balmain have competed in Australia's premier women's water polo competition, The Australian Waterpolo League (formerly the National Water Polo League) since it was established in 2004, winning the minor premiership on four occasions.
